Kismet imagines worlds
that are more just, equitable, charitable, empathetic, and sustainable
The Kismet Magazine is a not-for-profit literary magazine publishing speculative fiction, nonfiction, and poetry from marginalized communities. This magazine is a labor of love out of Bloomington, Indiana — a transient town that nonetheless harbors its own brand of magic in the flourishing communities fostered here. While many of our contributors and staff members were brought together by the town and Indiana University in one way or another, this magazine is a love letter to our wider community of writers, readers, and artists who find solace in world-building, imagination, and each other’s company.
We hope that this start-up zine — born of speculative narrative and the American Midwest — will grow in the future as our staff, audience, and community grows. With each issue we’ll present a diverse selection of speculative fiction, poetry, and non-fiction that cultivates community and conversation at the crossroads of our intersecting worlds. The Kismet Magazine is for those of us who must build the worlds in which we thrive and for those of us who want to help.
